Credit consent, identity checks and keeping your information safe
Read the agreement before agreeing
Before submitting the online application, review the Credit Consent Agreement shown in your application. It explains the authorizations being requested. If you are uncertain about a credit check, information sharing or how long consent applies, ask before checking the consent box.
Consent to review a mortgage application is not a promise of approval. It is also not automatically consent to receive every type of marketing message. Follow the actual agreements you are presented with.
Why identification is requested
Mortgage professionals and other parties may have legal identity-verification obligations. Lenders and lawyers/notaries also have their own identity requirements. An uploaded copy can support the process, but does not necessarily complete verification. An in-person or approved remote verification step may still be required.
SINs and sensitive details
Do not send your SIN in a general email or support chat. If requested, ask why it is needed, whether it is required for that purpose and how to provide it securely. Government-issued ID, a CRA document and bank records can contain information that should not be casually shared.
Do not redact or cover parts of requested mortgage records without checking first: removing details can make the document unusable. Equally, do not send unrelated sensitive records just because you think they might help. Ask what is actually required.
Protect access
Use a unique password and your own device where possible. Keep invitations private. Never give our team your bank login, password, PIN or one-time code. If an optional bank-connection feature appears in your portal, read its own consent and privacy information; using it is not a substitute for understanding the permission you are granting. Ask us about a manual-statement alternative.
Beware of last-minute payment scams
A mortgage transaction can attract impersonation attempts. Treat unexpected instructions to move money or a change in bank details as a reason to pause. Verify with your lawyer/notary using a trusted phone number, not a new number in the message. Do not make a transfer based only on an email, text or chat.
